  • WELCA (Women of the ELCA) Board Chair, Marian DeGiovanni.
  • All women who attend St. John’s are members of WELCA and may join a Circle for Bible study, prayer service and fellowship.
    • Martha Circle meets the first Thursday of the month at 9am.
    • Miriam Circle meets the first Thursday at 1:15pm.
    • Sarah Circle meets the first Thursday at 1:30pm.
    • March Circle meets the first Tuesday at 1:30pm.
    • Lydia Circle meets the second Thursday at 1pm.
    • Ruth Circle meets the second Monday at 7pm.
  • Bible study leaders meet with Pastor Rilling on the last Tuesday of the month to review the next lesson.
  • The women collect pennies and loose change in a fish bowl in the gathering area on Sundays. The money is used for two purposes. They contribute to Women and Children in Crisis which is mostly used locally, and give $100 for the offering at the Biennial LCW Convention, which is also used for Women and Children in Crises projects.
  • Operation Christmas, which has been in the form of the Caring Tree efforts, is a project of WELCA.
  • One-half of the offerings collected at monthly circle meetings goes to the national office for their service projects.
  • Another project of the women is Christmas Cheer. Last year the women decided to donate $200 to Hope House and $200 to the Good Neighbor Clinic.
  • The women decide at their annual meeting which Lutheran World Relief projects to support. They collect the items for health kits each year. Some circles assemble sewing kits and school kits while others put layettes together.
  • The women have established 6 prayer chains of 8-10 members each for directed prayers.
  • The women’s circles also take turns visiting Special Friends (Shut-Ins) in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and those who are home-bound.
