Welcome to St. John’s Lutheran Church! This webpage is designed to give you a condensed overview of our church, what to expect, and how to contact us. You can also browse our website and click on the tabs on the Home Page for information on activities, missions, photos, and more!
Being Lutheran – If you are interested in learning more about the Lutheran theology or becoming part of the Lutheran faith, please contact either Pastor Fred or Pastor Sally for more information. We also occasionally offer education opportunities that dive deeper into our faith. These offerings are wonderful for those new to the Lutheran faith as well as those that have been Lutheran for many years!
St. John’s is part of the South Central Synod of Wisconsin of the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America). We have a long and rich history in the Sauk Prairie area. Visit our History and Our Stories pages for much more.
Location – We are located at 100 Oak Street in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin. Click here for a map. Our parking lot as several spots reserved for Visitors, so you are sure to find a spot!
Worship Information – Service times can be found on our Worship page. Our style of worship might be described as traditional, although we strive to learn new worship settings and songs. We offer a variety of worship settings throughout the month, and the sacrament of Holy Communion is offered every Sunday.
Baptism - According to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Baptism is "one of two sacraments for Lutherans, the other being Holy Communion. Baptism is the entry rite into Christian faith. It is an act instituted by God, performed using water in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, whereby the baptized is united with Christ."
Baptisms are held throughout the entire church year at either of the services for people of all ages. Please contact Pastor Rilling if you would like to discuss having yourself or your child(ren) baptized.
Holy Communion – At St. John’s, we practice “open Communion,” meaning all of God’s people are welcome to the table. Depending on the service setting, Communion is offered standing at the center aisle or kneeling at the Communion rail. You are welcome to bring your children forward with you to receive a blessing. Children can start communing at any age. Please speak to one of the pastors to learn more about this. To indicate to the pastor or communion assistant that you wish to receive Communion, simply hold your hands out with palms up. (Communion information for the Sunday service can always be found in the worship bulletin.)
Nursery – Children are always welcome in worship. However we know there are times when having a nursery for your children is helpful for you. We have a wonderful nursery room just down the hall from the Sanctuary, in the Education wing. There is always a young adult volunteer available to watch your children while you are in worship.
What to Expect – When you arrive at St. John’s, you will be greeted at the door with a smile and a handshake. If you have any questions upon arrival, feel free to ask one of our greeters or ushers (who will be in the Sanctuary handing out bulletins before the service). Be sure to sign our Guest Book near the coat room. When you do, you can expect to receive a survey from us asking about your first visit experience (we are always looking for ways to improve our visitor’s experience!) Once seated in the Sanctuary, we also have a Friendship Pad and Visitor cards located at the end of the pews. These are also great ways to let us know that you have visited us for the day, or if you wish to have someone contact you.
Please join us between services for fellowship time with refreshments, a wonderful opportunity to meet people and for us to meet you! We also offer adult education and Sunday School for the children between services. Look for information in the Sunday bulletin about those offerings.Contact Us – If you have a question that we have not addressed on this page, please contact us!
