LOCAL MISSION

Public Relations and Social Concerns Board Chair, Maryellen Beich (643-4265)

· St. John’s contributes to the local food pantries on the second Sunday of the month.
· Members support the ONE campaign of www.ONE.org

· St. John’s staffs Mobile Meals for two weeks three times a year. Kathi Risley, Coordinator (643-6892)

· Special Benevolence offerings often go to the Good Neighbor Clinic, the local free or reduced rate medical and dental clinic for low-income community members. Dr. Haakon Carlson, Director (643-3622)

· Members contribute interview appropriate clothes for “Dress for Success” and affiliated local and regional programs.

· Members contribute baby, personal care and school items for Hope House, this area’s shelter for women and children.

· St. John’s Quilters make quilts that are given to each child baptized at St. John’s. Other quilts are sent to Lutheran World Relief, the local St. Vincent de Paul Society and people in Mississippi. The Quilters make about 800 quilts each year. LaVera Page, Coordinator (643-3870).

· Women of the ELCA Circles and the congregation as a whole provide school kits, health kits, layettes and sewing kits to LWR. We also collect items and assemble midwife and hospice kits for delivery to the synod assembly for Global Health Ministries. Kathy Lester, Chair, WELCA Board (643-4145).

· Many from our church collect labels, box tops and coupons for area elementary schools. Gina Varley, Coordinator, Box Tops for Education (544-5002).

· St. John’s members collect used greeting cards for a variety of purposes.

· Members knit or crochet prayer shawls which are blessed and given to people needing physical contact and prayers. Bev Clason, Coordinator (544-2101).

· St. John’s is a community Caring Tree sponsor. This organization makes sure every child in our area has new presents for Christmas. St. John's representative, Betty Sauer (643-4713).

· Our Sunday School children bring good used toys for the Red Sleigh at First United Church of Christ in Sauk City (643-8387). These toys are spruced up if necessary and given to area children for Christmas.

· Many donate children’s coats for the fall Coats for Kids program at Concordia United Methodist Church in Prairie du Sac (643-6356).

· Our congregation assembles shoeboxes of toys and small gifts for children in Haiti. Many also contribute toward the cost of shipping.
